best all round tile cutter for a newbie

hey lads im going on a tiling course very shortly and have been reading in various places about different tile cutters and just wondered what everyone thinks is a good cutter to start with.

i seem drawn to the rubi ts 50 at arround the 200 mark

so what does everyone else think

also is a wet cutter a must have item

a wet cutter is a must have in my opinion. i have just got the TS-40 £171. brilliant. but dont go spendingto much on tools just yet. also invest in a wash boy. where are you located, i have a tile cutter you can have for cheap, brand new

The ts 50 sounds good for a first cutter, mine was ts 40 and used for a number of years until tiles got bigger

It won't stop there though for cutters

The Rubi boys will say Rubi and the Sigma boys will say Sigma.

Sigma 5b should cost around £160 and is a superior cutter than a TS50 imo. The Sigmas are harder to source if you're in England though, more of a market saturated by Rubi.

Never used a Montolit but they seem like quite a popular choice.

Rubi ts60 plus would be ideal available at tradetiler 200 plus vat good price tiles seem to be getting bigger so a ts60 would cut 90%of tile you will come across

i know ill learn this on my course and hope i dont annoy anyone by asking what are probably stupid questions but i like to know.

what would you do with a wet cutter you couldnt do with a normal cutter

to be fair ill probably end up making a wash boy as i do window cleaning and metal fabricating/welding go body work at the mo so i have the buckets and will just fold up an old stainless grill from something just to keep costs to a low

you can plunge cut tiles for sockets,cut L shapes for windows and doors(not to mention the other strange shapes you will come across)YOU CAN'T CUT NATURAL STONE TILES WITH a dry cutter(soz about caps)

i have two plasplug mastertiler machines and a rubi wet cutter...husqvarna rail cutters and a rubi ts60.

Daily i use mt husqvarna and a mastertiler wet cutter...for domestic jobs.

Mmmmm, tricky question, as has been mentioned already, tiles are getting to be of a larger format year after year, and quicker you'll probably need 2, one small for smaller tiles, and larger one for, well yep, you guessed it, larger tiles :lol: Personally I have a Rubi TS 50 and a Rubi TS70 and a couple of cheapos that I've collected along the way. I have not used one, but a fixer I know has a Big Clinker, from Topps Tiles, he does the lot on it. I suppose a lot comes down to choice and budget.

a TX 700 for everyday use, will do for splashbacks and most bathrooms, I use a dw200lp (rubi) for a wet cutter,and for the really big tiles I use my TX1200N

in answer to what would you do with a wet cutter cut out a square for plug socket and cut marble granite ect which a dry cutter wont do it just crumbles because there natural stones

also been looking into wet cutters a bit more and found this which is about the money would be prepared to pay for one this seems to have the highest power motor out of most in the same price range

so what are the views
