well katie279, so as a first time tiler you are attempting something that some experienced tilers would not want to do, it seems so simple and only takes 2 lines to write,

have you taken into account the increase in height at the door threshold, have you thought about supporting the 18mm ply at the edges where the old floorboards went into the next door room, and were supported on the joist in that room.

my advice would be to plan and then plan again, get lots of advice,do things slowly at each stage, put an alarm on the uhf, use the best materials available regardless of cost, and be prepared at the end to regret having started it.
good luck

Personally I quite like your guts, you seem like you know what you want to do and going to do it anyway.

ive got a sneaking suspicion that the more somebody says dont do it, you're gonna want to do it more.

as the guys have said there are a few areas you could come unstuck and I think the main worry here is that the sheer value of the materials you're using means its risky.

Although guys would you been as quick to deter the OP from doing it if the user name didn't give away her gender?

i say give it a bash Katie as long as you're aware that should things go wrong a tradesmen is unlikely to be able to rescue the job and may well suggest its started again with new materials. If you're willing to take that risk I'm sure some members will help you here.

I am guessing this is what the noggins as needed was for.

Good luck Katie! If it all goes belly up it's only another trip to the hardware shop and more money spent but at least you'll learn and have fun! I'm in Scotland too and pretty much doing the same thing.

Hi Steve, some great advice - bit easier in this instance as the kitchen floorboards are all within the room (ie no runs under the walls) so should be easier, the joist spans are also pretty decent so should be fairly solid base, but will add a few noggins for luck!

Definitely agree with as much advice as possible (hence I'm here asking the experts!)

Unfortunately if you've never used SLC before, self leveller over ufh cables will have a similar contour to the hills of Donegal.

Hi Peter, never said I hadn't used slc before, but plan to stick down UFH (not just with the matting, but use a glue gun to make sure it doesn't float up after I pour). Any other tips/things to watch out for?
