Best tiles for log burner?

I have been asked to make a hearth tile it and tiles the walls....they are having a log burner fitted into a corner of the room..

Am i right in thinking...

A concrete harth with porcelain tiles will be suitable......and i need to replace the norman plasterboard with hardie backer board?.....and use porcelain for these too.....is there a set width i need to cover for the burger? e.g if its 400mm wide would a 1m span be enough? so like 300mm to each side

Its plasterboard?....be much easier to take off and put some heat resistant material on?....just not sure how far each way of the burner i would have to go for legalities!

I have done a few always render using fire cement.

Is there a minimum thickness the render has to be? like 2-3mm would be okay im guessing? prime and tile straight onto with the porcelain

The render needs to be a minimum of about 8mm....

Can u tell me as to why it needs to be rendered....when its tiles and grouted whats the chances of anything getting through the tiles and grout? or am i missing something

plasterboard is a good product in this situation i would have thought its ok at 100c i thought its not in the fire just ring british gypsum

Even under heat render breaks down thats why you put the fire cement in the mix I really dont think plasterboard is a good idea.

Aquapanel would be fine for this job. From (distant) memory Aquapanel was actually designed by Knauf as a Fire Check board. Its water resistant properties were then stumbled upon and as a tile backer board it was actually a larger market for the product.

ats much better idea even fire board itself is a good product to tile on the plasterboard would be easy to cut out and replace. and plasterboard is only rated up to 49 c Beam not 100c as i thought

The hearth should be of a certain thickness and be constructed of non combustable material, can't remember the excact dimension (building regs). The Logburner instructions will give the dimensions for the sides and back, the top of the burner could reach about 400 deg c
again there are building regs covering distance of combustible materials from the flue. Some chippy's boxed in and made a chimney breast after a fitter had signed off a chimney and appliance and burnt the barn conversion down within months
Shefield insulations do fireboard, I use it where I can when I solder with map gas as it lasts much longer than most heat mats. You can use this stuff as a closure plate between the chimney and the stove pipe
