Tonight i got a cracker of a job, laying over 40sqm of travertine in a large conservertory. Gave the price and they said yes straight away (was well made up), woman then said "will they come up easily" to which i replied "nope will be stuck solid" she looked unhappy.

I couldn't believe what she told me next. They are having the floor laid because they are hosting a dinner party at Christmas and it will look "all christmasy and go with the decorations etc etc that we are putting in there" After Christmas she wants it ripped up and a wooden floor re laying.

They are having this done for ONE party then it is being ripped up!
They are paying me and extra 300 quid if i will rip it up after xmas!

Some people are just stupid or have more money than sense.

Only prob though is that they want all the work doing of a night time because they are out working and don't want anyone in there without them. Suits me, havn't had to cancel any jobs and its nice cash, although i think i will be asleep on christmas day i will be that knackered :)

My jaw is locked open.Dont it make you wonder if there is some way that they can be reused.
lay down brown packaging paper penno...tile on top of it and grout up...dont use flexi grout....when you rip it up after xmas the tiles are yours...be sure to charge for an imaginary skip....Gaz

Spot on Gaz. Dont know what current surface is. Have pasted wall paper onto marble floor to protect it from temporary tiled showroom floor.
Only problem I can see is removing adhesive from this stone. Maybe weaken adhesive by mixing with sand ?
Grout with sand incorporating PVA ? Sand sculpturers spray their art with a diluted pva to create a hardened crust?
