As a customer looking to use the services of a quality tiler, I find it strange that someone who can cut and fix ceramic tiles to a professional standard, that you couldn't also trim 1/2'' off the bottom of a door with a circular saw.

I would not want to pay a carpenter even 1/2 a days money for a simple 10 min job...............

exactly my thoughts im glad you brought it up.....i much prefer putting the carpenters money in my own pocket after charging the customer

Always trim doors for customers with a circular saw, along with new threshold bar with hidden fixing. Charge £** and takes me 30 mins, cheaper than a joiner and at £** an hour, more lucrative than tiling...

you have to covered by your insurance to do any other trades.... those that do it without risk getting caught out with the old phrase, mr tiler there is a scratch on my door that was not there before you trimmed it..

I am more than capable of doing other trades but i am not insured to do it, hence i don't..:)

I had a tiler come round today to quote me for a bathroom............ he also did not want to touch trimming doors (which I thought was strange)

Also after a lengthy discussion about adhesives he said he would be using Mapei Keraquick (I think).................. I also had a few other quotes and these guys have said they would not touch Mapei products due to the extremely slow curing times ?

Any truth in this ?

This is off topic !

never plane doors......cause im useless at it..

im a tiler and i tile.....stick to what im good at, and to be honest anyone that says its just a case of running a saw through the bottom of a door, is devaluing a carpenters trade the same as saying its just a case of slapping tiles on the wall...
