i totally agree dave .
but if iearnt £1200.00 per day iwouldnt be complaining .

I have laid over 30 mtrs of stone in a day but then it is to grout and seal and that is at least another couple.. Stone is not a fast job so charge well for it.. if you charge cheap prices then you will never get good money.. charge what you are worth i say.. and if they say no.. then i move on to next job etc..

And you can "whack down" 600 sq ft in 3 days?
Well that is great, but I never work with stone that quick and haven't yet met a fellow that did unless they had more than one mason and a few helpers going and they want to be paid as well.
So a 600 sq ft job would be priced at $7.50 which would be $4500.
I can see it if you have a wide open area, but most places I have seen never are like that, there are tons of cuts and all kinds of walls and rooms.

if you command this sort of money then i take my hat of to you m8 but pleas do not talk down to people that don't it's not nice.

Dave i agree 60m2 of natural stone to lay on your own 3 days1st half day sealing then2 days 1 day grouting next day sealing 5 days get what you can for it then is that what you mean

Have a set price for your stone mtrg tiling and a set mtrg price for ceramics etc.. Stone is worth a higher price rate as it does take longer and can be a lot more intricate.. But i do agree some jobs are priced on day rate as well as if you just charged mtrg then you would lose out big style..

i know some tilers who just charge day rate full stop and never work on a mtrg price.. but like i said if they are happy then that is their choice i say.. but i know what i can get per mtr and i don't very often budge from it unless it is a massive floor area that you really earn some pennies on.

Don't know how you interpret those comments as "talking down" to anyone.
I am just adding input.
And yes I am aware that different parts of the world have different economic realities, but last I heard things were pretty costly over there and it would be nice to see you guys make a great wage for your efforts.
That is where I am coming from.

The thing that offended me about your posts where
what's up with all you guys just giving it away?
You want to be poor?
Or are things that bad over there that you have to give beer prices for champagne?
Why should income be frozen at decades old rates?
That just puts people into low-cost housing projects.
Why should a person be content with wages comparable to a standard labour job when doing high end finishing work?

Ok so you have made it abundantly clear that our m2 rates are beneath you but for us that is the going rate and at the moment no amount of blowing smoke up your own backside is going to change that.
