building control?

hi i have a customer who wants to build an en suite with stud walls from scratch in an existing bedroom i assume he will have to contact buiding control?
any advice peeps

Can't think why? They usually deal with insulation, ventilation or structure(load bearing)

Like a 110mm soil pipe dug into the ground(pea gravel below the pipe and checked before backfilling with gravel)

yes for some reason i thought a new waste pipe had to be declared on a building warrant other wise the only correct insrtall would be a saniflo system which doesnt need approval?

If it is a new soil pipe into the sewer it is reportable but not a new waste. However there is the water regs to consider. Also if there is any electrics this may be reportable under part p

hi alan i dont think part p applies in scotland but no doubt the equivalent for new electrics cheers i will look intot his

i doubt you do,but they make rules up everyday so maybe

Part P doesn't exist in Scotland but electrics will require to be done by a competent person following IEE wiring regulations or an electrician. A new waste does not require building control to be contacted if connected to existing pipe work. I've build several en-suites within bedrooms.
Will the en-suite contain a shower? If so, suitable ventilation will also be required.

I'm quite sure that Approved Docs for building regs only apply for england and wales, and different regs are in place in scotland. I'd contact the relevant authorities Jamie to put your mind at rest.

cheers bubble we are going to core a vent so that will be okay,have called building control twice doug..less than helpful and didnt actually know all the answers beleive it or not!!
