only loan i have ever had is a mortgage if you need money to start save it first then start no overdrafts buy tools as you need them if you start part time its all extra money Pete

I just bought a Peugeot 206 van off ebay for 1400 quid. Y reg, 1.9 diesel with only 51k on clock and full service history. Does me fine as a tiler. Cant believe you were thinking of spending 10k on a van!! Shop around and you can save loads on what you are quoting. As the other guys say, you dont need to release equity. Just get stuff as you need it but one bit of advice is dont skimp on the cutters you buy. Worth their weight in gold a decent cutter!!

First van a nissan urvan £1000 had it six years recently paid £7000 for an a transit, ( I was lucky to be in the position to do so) to carry my bits not just tiling though wheel barrows plaster or carrying plaster and tiling tools together

I agree with all the posts, definitely no need for the big investment at the start, get only what you need, and shop around. I still work out of my family car. (Back seats removed and its a mess but I didnt want to buy a van till I got cashflow going). I had 2K of course fees and another 2K for tools and cash in bank got me going.
On the wet cutter front, I bought a 30 quid one from ebay to start, needed a good marcrist blade and I was away. It quit on me last week after copious amounts of porcelain so i invested £400 in a decent rubi one. A poor quality one can do the job to get you started as with a few other tools but when things start to get busy invest in good tools and equipment after doing your research.

Good luck

The SINGLE most important thing when starting in business is controlling costs. In business, cash is king. Don't spend it unless you have to!

if you did spend that lot on all your start up gear the only blessing is you'd have a low tax bill!! I managed without a mixer for ages and made do by hand. Then only paid £40 for one 18 months ago. Buy as you need after the key stuff.

listen to what the guys are saying mate,u should be upand running for around £5k save the rest for cashflow.new van doesnt mean ur a good tiler

watch out for trade accounts too. Make sure when you get paid you pay them n all. Easy to let them build up! My 1st van cost £750, sold car for £800 to fund it, and 2nd van which is tonnes better and bigger cost £500 after 1st blew up.

Just buy enough to get u up and running m8 and then buy things like mixer,3mm trowel ect as you get jobs and offset them against tools. Didn't get a mixer for 1st month as had no floors to do.
