Banks have the right to close personal accounts without notice if they get wind they are used for business purposes.

All I can say is, choose carefully. RBS/NatWest will be hungry for your custom right now, so you might be able to get free banking for a period of time but always check the small print....

Abbey have the only totally free (within certain limits) business banking that I know of. major drawback is that you can only deposit via a bank machine or through the post for cheques only (at the mercy of Royal Mail here!!). They also pay interest when in credit too.

I'm with A&L and post checks all the time, any cash can be put thru the post office to my account

Most banks will give you a free banking period (12-18 Months), I was with Barclays but have moved to Lloyds because it's nearer to my home (50 yards! If there's a run on this bank, i'll be the first in the que!:lol, But I liked Barclays because the Branches have dedicated business areas (well they do in Brighton) and when it comes to paying in cheques at lunch time it can save you hours in queing up! And you can also just walk in and see a business manager whenever you like where with Lloyds you have to make appointments and que up with the personal account holders to pay in. Lloyds do offer the same perks but you have to be turning over 2m to get these, which sadly I don't.:mad2:

I use a personal account with the bank i have my credit card, savings and current accounts with as well a share buying.
If they shut my 'personal' business account then i take my money elsewhere along with the rest of my business. Its your money...they shouldnt charge you for the privledge of looking after it for you!

I have a Barclays business a/c and have used up the 12 months free bit, so now get charged for everything except automated transfers / card payments. Therefore all my receipts go into our joint a/c and then get transferred by internet banking. Still get charged a monthly fee though, but it cuts out the 60 odd pence per cheque / cash / credit

Most banks will offer free business banking for the first 12/18 months. after this you can do what a lot of people do and switch to another banks free offer - they normally do it all for you (bill payments, Direct Debits/Standing Orders, etc) in theory 'hopping' from bank to bank and getting continually free banking.

It all depends on how busy your account is in terms of transactions and transfers, pay ins etc. If it isn't then you may want to stick with your personal account, although technically you're not meant to!
