Calcium sulphate screeds.

Are you finding in 2011 that Calcium sulphate screeds are being used in the domestic market more and more..?

Absolutely dave. Right down to the small end stuff e.g conservatories an extensions nowadays.

I am on one right now and another one end of November.. so that is 3 for me in just over a yr.. so deffo getting popular in the north east..

I have also quoted on more but not won them...

I've quoted on several this year and only got one..... the rest told me i was talking rubbish after receiving quote as regards to the prep and adhesive needed!

Just the usual regarding removing laitance as soon as possible to aid drying and ease of removal, suitable primers and gypsum adhesive and decouplers..... Have been accused of creating more work than is needed so's to make more money.....

Well with the exception possiblyof decouplers altough i agree on the efficacy in the right circumstances there is not much wrong ith your advice. If they have done otherwise i shallprobably be hearing from them when their tiles fail methinks.

Quoted and won a such floor recently but didnt have to tell them about the Prep as they had already been informed.

Done my first one this year, I do think they are becoming more popular but, I reckon it'll be a while before they overtake sand and cement/fibre screeds.

Most of the floors that I have done this year have been on previously covered (old) substrates. I think I've only had a hand full of new screeds and 2 of them have been Anhydrite, so I'm probably running at about 40% new screeds being anhydrite for this year.

I only get involved with domestic properties and agree that they are deffo becoming more popular.

We will see how the popularity holds up when people start to realise that it was not rubbish about how much prep is needed for this type of screed. Personally i predict a sharp return to the more traditional methods and materials.

The popularity of these
screeds is not really related tonthe level of prep required which realistically is not much different to sand cement screeds. The popularity is based on the many benefits they offer. A sharp return to sand cement is unlikely really buthere is quite a way to go before we get to the situation like we see in france and holland where most of the screed is calcium sulphate these days

Never heard of this type of screed. Can someone explain what it is and what prep is needed ?? Don't mean to sound like an idiot

done 5 barn converstions in the last year to 18 months, all calcium screeds with UFH. no probs so far. all scrubed and cleaned then primed. none de-coupled yet but the next one starting in two weeks has three major stress fractures so the builder has agreed to decouple, room is 10m x 9m.

the previous 5 barns had not one expansion joint anywhere in the 200m+ of screed!!!
