Can i tile on it.

Got my nieghbours downstairs shower/toilet room to do the lower half has had tiles taken off and the plaster has come off leaving the cement render.Will i need to skim over this or can i tile straight onto the render? Was thinking of using webber tub or P9 if i don't need to skim it. Thanks Paul.

Ah, i'm not entirely sure there then,it's quite firm and grey in colour. Not powdery.

if it was sand and cement render it would have been ideal to tile onto, but as Dave says, the colour sounds more like a gypsum backing coat.
What tiles are you fixing? ceramic hopefully

Yeah just plain 6x6 white ceramic Doug.I did't think it was ok to tile straight onto but thought i'd check first.
