Hello

I have been redoing my shower cubicle for the last few weeks.

I stripped it right back to the studwork, installed aquapanel, tanked with the Dunlop kit, and tiled with large-format tiles.

I grouted a week ago, and have siliconed all the necessary parts.

I haven't, however, sealed the grout yet because I haven't been able to find the right stuff.

Would I be pushing it to use my shower for the first time tomorrow?

We are desperate to try it out, but don't want to use it too early if doing so might cause long-term problems.

1: Will using it a week after grouting be OK?
2: Will the grout sealer be just as effective as long as I make sure the cubicle is completely dry again before applying it?

I'm hoping the experts will say go ahead and seal later. But be honest with me if you think we have to wait longer!

Cheers.

Only need to wait 24hrs for Silicon to go off properly before you can use your shower. It is a good idea to seal the grout but not neccessary if you have used the correct stuff. Most ardex stuff is designed for showers and swimming pools anyway and never stipulate that you need to seal them afterwards as do BAL I believe.

Get in there and enjoy it!!

you should by rights leave a shower 2 weeks before using , it should be stipulated on your grout bag...how long...

Interesting point Dave. Just checked my bag or Ardex FL and it doesn't specify any particular timescale, neither does their Technical Data sheets, they only say "Final Set 4hours". My bags of BAL grout do stipulate a BS whish says showers should be left 2 weeks and swimming pools 3 weeks.

In my proffessional opinion it should be used emmidately by you and your wife to test out the strength of the job,a bottom slapping onto the ceramic will expose any frailty in the strength of the bond to the wall.Hose down the walls and grout protect when dry( and you have your strength back)

Cheers. By way of thanks, I'll post some pics in the gallery!

P.S. We used the shower, and it's a fookin' cracker! We've gone from a dribble to a torrent.

Mira Excel BIR with a separate pump comes highly recommended from me. Fitting it has earned me 10 years of brownie points with 'er indoors.
