caught this today while out fishing

no salmon, but this has made my season!! wild otters that haven't been seen on my river for decades, this one actually ran over my foot:hurray::hurray:

play on words Mike, obviously, very nearly never took my phone, just wished I'd taken my good camera as I got a recording a little while later of this one playing with it's sibling, so if anyone knows how to clean a phone vid up I'd appreciate it

it's only small! i've been night fishing on the local breakwater when a huge seal has swam up and barked real loud just feet away, now that's scary!

I remember canoeing along the coast of the Irish Sea one day and a big seal popped up beside me, now i jumped that day then froze.lol.

not at all Joe, I heard it calling before I saw it and very very far back in my memory banks I remembered and thought it sounded like an otter but I played the sound down as I didn't want to get my hopes up too high....it really has made an otherwise indifferent salmon fishing season into one I'm really chuffed about.

i take it that means a baby? that probably means they're breeding there, that's good news

that's right Mike and even though fishermen in the past and present have persecuted otters, I'm really glad to see them back and breeding, for one thing they'll drive off the mink that are just killing machines, unlike otters that only kill to eat

lost one though Stew, had the bugger on for 15 mins and it still didn't break surface before shaking hook....but otter sightings more than made up for loss of a fish

That might be why there are No/Few Salmon this season.
Should come over onto the Tyne - best in England for Salmon - so they say!

otters should improve the salmon population John as they will only take what they eat, whereas they'll also drive the mink out that just kill the fish for no reason
