Cellar/kitchen floor "HELP"

Got a job to remove tiles from a cellar kitchen floor and re-tile including under tile heating. But we have now been told the kitchen some times floods and they don’t know where the water comes from it may be a surface water drain that runs under the house and the water comes up from the floor is there any way round this problem or just remove the tiles and see what we find. I was thinking an impey wet room membrane but this may lift the full floor if it is coming up from the drain.

How bad is it when it floods and how often does it flood, is it only when there is heavy rainfall, i would advise against the undertile heating due to the flooding, as for the tiling you could tile using a waterproof adhesive, something that is suitable for swimming pools, just make sure that it is dry when you fix the tiles.
I would try and find the source of the flood first though...Mark

I would find the source of the flooding as well....

To tile it ... you will have re-move the old tiles and see wot condition the substrate is in....if it is sound enough then clean it and fix ditra down( like you would when tanking ) this will allow the substrate to breath if it gets wet or in any moisture comes up ...
and then re-tile on top of that.....but firstly the flooding needs to investigated...

I cant belive customers are so stupid, they are going to spend all that money doing the job, when they know they have a real problem...funny old world:speechless:

1. where can i get DITRA flooring, how do you fix it down and how much is it?
2. i have been to see the customer today and its over a year since it last flooded
3. the street has had some work done to the drains after there was a blockage 4 doors down and a 12" pipe outside the customers house had been replaced,
4. i have advised them not to get under tile heating,
5, is there any thing i've missed?

Ditra can be bought from many places.. i get mine at ctd..its about £14 a mtr..stick it down with the appropriate adhesive for the substrate.
The adhesive to stick the tile down with, needs to suit the tiles....
