Change of level to provide access for wheelchair

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Has anyone done any work like this? We are having a pvc door removed between dining and utility room and replaced with an internal door. The aim is to create a level access for a wheelchair. However, there is a change of level 50mm. Builders want to create a level/shallow tiled ramp.
What would be the best tile to use and has anyone had any experience of this? Worried it could be slippery or look ugly, which as a permanent feature would be too late to cha

Hi
Thanks for your reply. This is the threshold in question. The height difference is estimated to be 50mm once the door has been removed.

50mm difference between the two tile levels either side of the door frame , pictures are deceiving
The door frame is staying in ?
No choice but to make a ramp , 50mm is a trip hazard and not really a step

The whole frame is coming out and 50mm is the estimated change in the 2 levels of tiles.
We need to establish a level threshold and a ramp for wheelchair access.

Many thanks. Will mention this to our builders. They have said that the ramp will be formed by building up in a different colour tile but of course once it is has been done, it is too late if we don't like it.
Has anyone done anything like this and got any photos, as we are having trouble imagining it.
