you really need to know what exactly you are tiling before you give a quote, then you can incorporate in your estimate whatever you want for taking the tiles off and explain to customer that your price includes tiles off, prime walls, adhesive, grout and trims ,this way you are showing that you know what you are talking about. It does take time to get estimates correct as you always seem to forget something or come up against an unforeseen problem, but take this advice and use it to your advantage.:)

What about when it comes to removing old adhesive from the walls? Would you get it skimmed or would you pack it out a bit with adhesive. I am going to price a job on Friday which I have to take the tiles off and I'm not sure about what to charge for that part of the job. Normally I don't take tiles off, but I really want this job as I know it will lead to more work. I have told a customer in the past that I would charge £150 a day for taking all the old tiles off in his bathroom. He accepted it and I paid somebody else £100 a day to do it for me.

I can't plaster so if the walls are really bad underneath the old tiles then it causes me major problems
