could you please give me some advice. I'm about to start up on my own and have been researching prices of materials. My local tile shop sells granfix supergrip tubs 10L for 4.65 and 20kg spf rapid set for 7.82. Topps sells bal grip for 29.99 and spf rapid for 44.99. Whats the difference? Is the cheap stuff good enough? How do I compete with tilers who buy cheap stuff If I was buying the good stuff. Thanks in advance.

i would suggest if you are just starting out let the customers get the materials to start off with, there are tilers local to me who can add £120+ on a job for materials(seen their quotes) when i know for a fact you are only talking £60/£70 for them. this way the customers know exactly what they are paying for. i heard a story of a previous tiler that had done another room in the same house as i was doing, the price he quoted for materials etc anyway he was running out of stuff and the customer volunteered to go and get some more. when they came back and checked his quote he was charging double for what they actually cost !!!! but thats why i suppose i was in there tiling this time.

Thanks, nearest tile giant is 13 miles away. Should topps be avoided then?
And is the big clinker any good or should I get a rubi or montolit?

trade prices work out better for regular traders, they also stock toppfix which i use quite often,in fact it's the only adhesive i would use apart from mapei/bal
as for the big clinker-it is an excellent cutter for the price and well worth buying for anybody starting out who doesn't have fortunes to spend on equiptment:thumbsup:

Is this the rapid set Dave?
I was in Topps at the weekend and was having a look at their adhesives, I was thinking of using it on a couple of jobs- whats it like? The lad said it was made by Palace.
