just to say hi to all i comleted a ceramic tile course and natural stone at north east tiling about two years ago very good it was to basicly kept me hand in at weekends for friends and family etc ever since now found my self unemployed for the first time in twenty years so considering giving tiling ago
so now started looking around thi site for guidence and advice if any one can tell me how the work situation is out there in these troubled times i would much appreciate it

cheers for any replies

Hi Chrizzy, sorry to hear you are unemployed.
Unfortunately if you look at alot of the threads on here you will find alot of the tilers are very slack as well in a building slump.
However there is still work out there and if you already have all the tools why not give it go. There are alot of good threads about drumming up work so read them. There is always work for a good tiler but be prepared to work hard at it or not massive returns.

Im not trying to be negative but realistic in the times we are all facing. Good luck with it and welcome to the forums:welcome:

cheers for the quick replys guys had a look at your pics you all been putting up imressive stuff hope i can build a porfolio up as good as some of yours if i decide to take the plunge great site for knowege base

Hi mate.... Well said Davey.

Don't think about it mate just do it, if you got an idea of it and done a few friends and stuff then you know enough. I finished my course on a Friday and had my first floor on a monday (16m2 on floor, and a kitchen splashback 4 m2..... took me 10 yes TEN DAYS lol)

would be in and out in three now though. Tiling is a great trade buit like Davey says, do not underestimate how hard it is, you will be doing a lot of days, long hours for not much return when you start (or not as the current climate of things may suggest), but once you have picked it up a bit more and your speed picks up you earn more.

Me personally i'm really struggling at the minute, got a job starting Monday and thats the first time i would have worked in nearly six weeks (and i do everything i possibly can to try and generate it too) but a lot of it is luck mate

Give it a go you aint got nowt to loose

Mind you Chrizzy, i used to be busy all the time but then i suddenly dissapered for a errrrm spell in the middle of it and the only person i ever saw was my lovely ginger friend Wivers, so am just trying to build it up again myself which is really tough at the mo so that could be why i'm very slow, cos their are a few tilers on here who live close to me and they all seem to be ticking over so be possitive and pro-active and you'll get there mate.
