I'm quoting to fix travertine onto skimmed plasterboard. The walls are in good condition and have never been tiled onto. Obviously the tiles are too heavy for the plaster skim so I'm going to overboard them with a backer board such as Marmox.
Would you just mechanically fix them or would you use adhesive as well?
What thickness of board?
Or would you do it differently?
Cheers

If you over boarded, would it not cause issues with architraves and the door frame? If it were me, I'd take the whole lot out and fit 12mm hardie. If you think you can find the stud work, and the extra thickness won't impeded on the architraves, then overboard. On the solid wall I'd do as you suggested and stick the boards with SPF and then put fixings right through to the block work, probably 100mm fixings with washers.

I'd already allowed for extra architraves but in the end, I might remove and re-board the 3 stud walls instead.
