Cleaning and sealing Victorian floor tiles - my own floor

Awesome forum you have here I have to say

Glad I found it.

I have the following tiles in my kitchen.

They are looking very tired and the odd one is cracked. I'm not too bothered about the cracks they are all still in position nothing missing.

I'm looking to clean them and then seal them.

What do I need uncle bob @Lithofin BOB ?

Area is about 15 - 18 square meters.

Do you not think it'll need something more heavy duty?

Maybe the wax off and then the satin finish one would suffice.

I'd imagine a buffer and white pad would be useful if the floors big enough.
Tbh mate, I've not done a lot of Vic restoration.
There's a few here that have.
So I'd rather they answer that.
I tell you who is mustard at it tho.
Hillhead tilers or whatever they're called.
Sure they're members here mate.

Oh.....and a wet vac will make a massive difference, wiping your floor clean with sponges truly does push all the dirt back in.
I learnt that the very hard way one time on matt black porcelain!

Deep clean with an alkaline cleaner, I use wexa or the Victorian tile restorer
( wax off if there was a wax or topical finish on, wax off is used neat.)

1-5 for wexa or stronger if required after test, use white pad and brushes , work in 1-2 Sqm sections at a time , apply each section and keep working for 10-15 mins , dont let dry out.
Add more if required while scrubbing every 1-2 mins. After this rinse well after each section. As Marc ,use / hire a wet vac as this will save time and effort.
Towel dry each section , so no water marks
Once complete, my drying times are 5-7 days or until fully dry.

After this , you will need the impregnator , kf stains top from us
I like to leave mine with just this in , water and oil reppelance and easy to maintain.
Apply in 1-2 Sqm sections, apply generously and keep wet with product for 10-12 min moving with a large sponge every 1-2 min, after saturation I use a white towel to buff fully dry to remove excess, do not leave a wet finish to dry in. Work down in controlled sections.

If you like the shine , kf tile polish goes on top of this , water based emulsions always need an impregnator to suspend them so they don't patch out.

but!!! Not for high traffic areas and this can scratch easily if your a busy household. Again ,more easily maintained with just the impregnator- maintain with easy care this will look after the sealer.
