Cleaning grout whats best??

Hi all I tiled a floor in sandstone coloured porcelain anout 2 years ago. I used sandstone grout also.

I have now been asked to patch some extra tiles then regrout the lot.

I was thinking is there anything I can use to clean the grout rather than regrouting the lot

Its only 5sq metres.

If it's unsanded grout it will come out pretty easily with a grout rake or razor knife, sanded is a different story. I've tried many different tile cleaners and not one works on badly stained/dirty grout - the grout still looks like crap afterwards.

My wife tried Aquamix grout colorant on a job last week and was very impressed with the result, easy to apply and, although contrary to the manufacturers instructions, cleaned up with a moistened cloth - it looks great. Another option for you to consider anyway.

HG do a grout restorer (mildew cleaner really) if I remember rightly it's in a squirty bottle, it really cleaned up the grout I was using it on

Colour sealing is certainly one way to go, just need to ensure the grout is really clean before sealing.

You can clean the grout with non-toxic oxygen bleach. Mix this magic powder with water and simply pour it onto the grout. Oxygen bleach is color safe as well!
