hi guys, im interested in learing more about tile cleaning and restoration. most of the homes where i live have old tiled patterned hallways. so if i can learn how to do it correctly might give me an opprtunity to add to the mothercare fund! in the first instance i was wondering how long it takes to do, the average hallway would be around 3x1m. is the process labour intensive? would it be something that could be done in a day? thanks David. p.s. anyone recommend any links to get some info on courses for this?

David,

The timing of your post is excellent. I am in the middle of planning a course at the moment. The course will cover in detail what you are looking at. Further details very soon.

Well, blow me down Kev!!

I was on the same restoration course as you only 9 months ago and I wouldn't dare believe that I am qualified to teach, let alone charge to teach others in this specialist area.

Just goes to show what you can do if you've got a bit of a gob on you  .

Good luck!

The market is very short of people to do Grinding, Honing and polishing. There are very few people in the UK capable of performing the tasks and trained tilers are best suited because of the understanding they already have. This is a very emerging market and with the massive advent of Natural stone on the increase and the lack of skilled people to correct badly laid natural stone floors the market is a lot bigger than you realise. You are however correct in your statement that the equipment is very expensive and it does cost a small fortune to get into. However, my prediction is for the right people with foresight it is a very lucrative market. There are no secrets to what I do Just 20+ years of experience in business and being able to spot a niche market. Two major contracts with a large department store and a major hotel chain are enough to make me believe in what I do:thumbsup:

I have 2 friends set up for that kind of work. They say its high risk, and very competitive.

Danny,

Something you will learn in time is you need a bigger comparison than 2 friends to make a business or an informed decision.

I know 10 aquaintances who are tilers. 6 of them say there is no work and no money in it! The other 4 say they are so busy they don't know where to turn next or what to do with the money they earn. But even this is no where near a true reading of the market.

Good Luck for today by the way! :hurray: Hope the new job at BAL goes well and lives up to expectations:thumbsup:

And if you think that your experince in this field qualifies you to pioneer the education of Grinding, Honing, Polishing, Repairs and Restoration in the UK - then good luck to you. Your a braver man than me!

Andrew,

Thank you for the kind words! Hows the tiling business treating you then? Hope you are enjoying it!
