On big floors I lay the bulk of it down then drop back and do all the cuts dry then fix them I do have to say I have been using porcelanosa porca quick adhesive and it goes off like a rocket and at the end of the day I been cleaning my trowel with an abrasive wheel on a disc cutter coz it's a sod to get off !!

Between mixes I wiz the whisk and leave it stood in a bucket of water. After a day or two any dried on adhesive comes off easy with a hammer.

Thats what I do. Few knocks with my bucket trowel and it falls off.

Slow set for me. (captain slow)

Why rush?!

Just don't grout slow set for 72hrs.

Thank you all for quick replies. When I went to CTD they want twice as much for a delayed set adhesive, which is why I ended up with the rapid. But I'll certainly change to a slow set now. Time is money after all.

The Weber Set SPF white (slow set) is a lovely smooth adhesive and worth the money imo.

CTD have got Mapei P9 slow set white at a tenner a bag. Great stuff.

I usually use bal spf which has a 5 hour pot life. I wish someone made an adhesive with a pot time in the middle. 30 mins too fast...5 hours too much...give us an hour imo. I carry a bucket third full of gravel. Fill with water at the job an whis whisk in it to keep shiny as new. When at a job with a gravel drive just renew it.

its a shame you cant add a catalyst to the addy to control the cure time :smilewinkgrin:

Tend to wash the trowel after using each bucket of muck , seems to work for me , always got water beside me when working.

Edit: PS , one of those little stanley window scraper things is handy , I use my Harris long handle scraper to give mine a once over if it set little too quick also.
