Yes true a closure should only be used whe the untrained eye does not notice but a door is an opening game everybody looks through an opening not above
Exactly my point mate, a good closure is one you don't see. As for looking through an opening, true for everyone but us tilers! I always look above a door, closure or not it tends to be where mistakes get lost.

If it's put in for asthetics then it's ok.
I done it on a job above the door, took about 70mm off the tile & polished up the edge, you wouldn't have known it was done unless you used a tape measure.

Which is exactly how they should be used. Seen some awful use of closures though in days gone by and when tiles were smaller. I remember looking at walls in a chippy all tiled in 6x6 whites, 2 inch closure up the centre of each door. Just lazy tiling.
