Does anyone out there do complete bathroom refits themselves, or do it using plumber and sparky? Or do you think its alot of hassle for the money and would just sooner stick to tiling. Ive been asked if i could do them for customers a few times but have always given them my pals number who does refits.Im sure theres good money to be made, just wondering if anyone else does well out of it?

As Grumpy says unless you know how to plumb a bathroom in or wire electrics and you are covered by insurance then i wouldnt bother.

I have done a couple of refits myself but found it a pain in the butt tbh as there are lots of little things you need to do,to make sure no leeks etc,so my advice is stay away.

Electricity should be left to the experts imo TOO DANGEROUS.

At least you can sleep at night if you concentrate on the tilling.

I work with a plumber now and again to do refits when folks are on hols. Have everything done and dusted when they get back. He tiles a bit and i labour to him as and when suits. We call in another mate who sparks for showers and any other electrics. We charge a fair old price but we leave the house inside and out like new. Means some long days if they are only away for a long weekend!

I've done several re-fits and started out advertising them as offered, but I've found that there are too many little niggly bits to fix with crap suites which drag on in the end. I never touch electrics, always bring in a qualified sparky, but I'm competent and insured for basic plumbing.

I've taken bathrooms off all my advertising now and I'll only do them again if they are decent quality, i.e. not B&Q 150 quid specials.
I like to do a really good job and want customers who appreciate that!

Very interesting. I am just looking into going on a bathroom fitting course. I don't want to do anything spectacular just rip out and refit suites. Okay you may spend alot of time on the fitting of them to start with but after a while you should speed up and carry the correct fittings etc on your van. It can only bring in more work surely? I sometimes feel i'm missing out on jobs because other people are offering a broader service. I was tiling a bathroom for a customer recently and she told me the guy who fitted the suite, 1 bath, 1 toilet and 1 sink charged £175 and was finished in a morning!

It seems to be a no brainer to me, what do you think?

A bathroom in a morning!! Does the bath move? I take a couple of days but pride myself on a job well done. (You can spend 60/70 quid on fittings)I've tiled bathrooms before where someone else has plumbed it in and the bath moves! Starting a complete refit tomorrow, new suite, tiled walls and floor, expecting to be in there for up to two weeks. Went to fix a badly fitted toilet last week in which a bathroom fitter charged 500 quid a week and told the customer it would only take a week, he was there for nearly three! As graces's dad said, use a qualified electrician. new builders regs come in this year where bathroom circuits have to be on a seperate 30 amp RCD, but don't quote me on that one just yet!

What you have to bear in mind if doing full re-fits.... if you go to someones house to tile the bathroom....you're a Tiler.... if you go to plumb the gear in... you're a plumber..... You want to avoid getting the tag of 'Jack of all Trades'.
This doesn't mean to say don't do them, they can be very lucrative... just make sure you sell your services as a 'Professional Bathroom Fitter'

Best of luck tops.I fit complete bathrooms all the time and average about a a week to do all work but some take up to 2 weeks.I do tiling and plumbing so setting out no problem, spark works with me and a good plasterer, and a painter and decorator.I offer the finished product at end so people do nothing and get what they want.Tiling usually offers no major problems but plumbing needs a thorough knowledge of systems and materials to protect from mishaps.Make sure your liability insurance covers all that you do and take your time even if slow.I know too many cheaper guys that are fast and finish is crap.Take time and although the customer may moan about pace - they will forget that when happy with finish.Best of luck and welcome to dolphins worst nightmare - a fitter who cares:hurray: .

totally disagree con5933

there is a whole market for bathroom installation service as there is for kitchen installations..tiling is half of the finished product in a bathroom so why not capatalize. who care if someone calls you a jack of all trades, they obviously are too busy concerning themselves with someone whos out there being ambitious (usually jealous people call you a jack of all) those days are in the past..

if you can plumb in a suite as good as a plumber and you have your part p in electrics, then why not get the extra work and provide a complete service..

i have seen countless vans and adverts which say, tiling specialists and bathroom installations...the 2 go hand in hand.
