Covering floorboards for porcelain tiles?

Hi.
As a part-time DIY-er I have a bathroom floor to tile and I would be grateful for some advice as to what's the best way to cover floorboards. I've been told well screwed down 6mm plywood will do the trick but I'm not sure if that is the best solution. Could someone please advise me of the correct way to do it?

Hi, 6mm ply is not ideal. If the floor is structurally sound, l would bed and screw hardibacker board. Use flexible cement based adhesive, 6mm should be fine.

Agree with above ,you might as well put cardboard on the floor sooner than 6mm ply dont do it

James Hardie also do a structural flooring range of 19 & 22mm tongue and groove structural floorboards.
You can remove the ply completely, and any extra supports that you may need and just re fit the
‘Hardie Floor’ in its place.
An excellent product and one I use when I’m able.

The most common solution is to use hardie backer or ‘no more ply’ and follow there instructions. If you do that you will have no problems down the line.

i know i'm a bit late, but i use the decoupling matting, on wooden floors, if the floor boards are loose stick a screw i tight beside the nails, less chance of hitting a pipe,
