Cracked floor

I went to look at a job on sat, 19m2 floor on concrete, but in the kitchen her son (a builder) laid a concrete floor and tiled it. a few months later a crack appeared from wall to wall, about 3m, and it went in the middle of the tiles, not on the grout line. does any one no why this happened, and should i be worried about the other floor, as the son laid that concrete floor?

Also, she asked about solid wood floor in the hallway and dining room, there is celetex in the floor between two lots of joists. and they have a heating system, which is tunnels built under the floor with vents coming up in each room. is laminate the only option???

Any other cracks in the house? On any internal or expternal floors? Corners? Thinking subsidence, as in what else it could be if it wasn't the concrete floor still settling and the heat issue...

it aint screed, defo concrete. no other cracks, i looked for some to try and think of a reason, she said her son is doing it in stages, that why he took 17months in total to fit her kitchen. i asked if the concrete floor went down in two bits to see if that might of caused it, but it never. all i can think of is the concrete cracked and made the tiles crack.

I agree but how thick was the concrete.

As a builder, again I agree but 17 months to complete the works is a long time.

Surprised as a builder he did'nt allow for a screed over the concrete.

im not sure how he laid them either, its just weird how the crack is a perfect line in the middle of one row of tiles from wall to wall

If the concrete went down in two halves, it maybe the day joint has opened up causing the crack?

I know you was told the concrete was laid in one pour but it is a possibility it was laid is two sections, just surmising really.

Did he mix it himself, did you need to use any slc before laying the tiles or was it a troweled finish.

i didnt lay the tiles, the prolem was what what the son done, he laid the concrete and tiles. the concrete in the other room that she wants me to ile, was in one pour and a smooth finish. i dont know if he mixed it himself, and as the woman dont talk to her son any more, we have no way of finding out, thats why i wanted to pick the brains of the forum.

sounds like you'll have to lift the broken tiles to see what the problem is then think of a solution.
