Went to see a bathroom floor the other night, bathroom had be redone a couple of years ago by a bathroom company. Anyway a T shape crack has appeared n the floor and seems to run in line with central heating pipes running to rad. Looks like the tiles have been laid on 9mm ply, dont know if it was screwed down or what adhesive had been used ! apart from wrong thickness of ply being used is it possible for heating pipes to be the cause of the crack if adhesive used was not suitable for any heat source ?

Re: cracked tiles & cetral heating pipes

I'd also consider if it was where 2 pieces of ply butt up together. if the crack is perfectly linear, I'd put some money on the ply being too tight against each other.
thats what happend with a job i got a joiner to lay ply 4me, ! 4 tiles cracked a few weeks ago after they had been down around 4 mths,,and when i took up tiles to see what the problem was. the cracked tiles where perfectly in line with the butted up ply ! i just cut a 2mm expantion joint with a cercular saw to seperate the two butted up sheets of ply . fingers crossed this will work
