Hi guys just looking for a bit off advice my brother recently bought a newbuild flat, he wanted his kitchen floor tiled, its was a chipboard floor with a grey waterproof coating on it. I told him couldnt tile straight on to it so i suggested putting ply down he said ok i said the minimum thickness could get away with was 12mm, came to day of tiling and 6mm ply was in place told him didnt want to tile on it but he said just go for it, problem is the tiles have now cracked where the sheets of ply join, im just looking to find a reason, is it simply the 6mm ply or am i missing something else here, would 12mm ply have prevented this , used rapidset flexible adhesive.

any suggestions or advice appreciated.

Have the ply sheets been butted up tight to eachother? There may still be movement in a newbuild house..

Got a feeling there should be a 2 or 3mm gap between the sheets to allow for a little movement and what`s happened is the sheets have "tented" slightly and it`s transferred through to the tiles.

could b now you say that i suppose thats what the problem will be? what should be done if it is a floating floor?
