Creating A Hearth

image.jpg this ones in my house, we're doing some work on the living room and one of the jobs is to sort the fire place, the fireplace and surround we have is wider than the original concrete hearth, im wanting to raise it up a few inches and tile it all with tiled front etc, any ideas? I was gonna make a frame and concrete it but not sure if that's the one onto the floorboards? Other idea, no more ply to the size I want it then concrete on top of that ?

You can see the tile adhesive where it was previously tiled onto the floorboards at each end

I think easiest option is to get a 50mm Marmox board stuck down. I've never had to tile direct to the foam, is it ok?

Could be an option, I would really like to stick down a 50mm tile backer board, but I am not sure about tiling to the foam edge

Build a frame out of slate batten , seal around the bottom with caulk and pour some slc to required hight :sunglasses::sunglasses:

I thought about doing that with concrete mix, then slc on top to make it nice. Would it be ok to do that onto a hardie board? As its a bit onto the floorboards

I'd screw the hardie on the floorboards then do the batten thing with slc , a fibre one like tilemaster level flex or the equivalent

It's my own house! Good idea widler, I think some of the slc pours 50mm, need some bags tho for that!

I think 1 bag of tilemaster rapid 90 would do it , it won't be 1m2 will it ? Or as pjc says , bed a concrete flag down and tile :thumbsup:

It's gone a little foamy on top in places, think that's due to the thickness and the fact I couldn't really roller it, only wafer thin tho, probably scrape it off before tiling
