Discuss Creation of beautiful wet room!! in the UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

Hello One and All!!

Although I am an experienced tiler, and my company has over the years gone into full wet room adaptaions, I am of the opinion, you can never know too much, especially if experienced people are involved...so...

Building an office with a wet room in my garage, the wet room has been created in a studded area slightly bigger than the tray we are using. The sub surface has had damp proof membrane throughtout, in the tray area, we are going to lay another course, then bed the tray in with screed. The 3 main walls are all lined with aqua panel, and tomorrow we will be using a wet room tanking kit, as well as an extra application of "coating" which will also help to create a water proof environment...any comments to this point let me know!!!

The one area where I could definately do with some help is the floor, as 100% of our floors we do are vinyl, so i have never laid a tiled wet room floor.. for the tray area, I think I am going to go for Fog Mosaic Tiles Coimbra Mosaic Tiles 300x300x9mm from Walls and Floors - Leading Tile Specialists - Over 20 Million Tiles In Stock - Sold Per Sheet
on the floor....are these tiles suitable, and will they need to be sealed (once, twice?) and then when it comes to laying, do you go straight over the tray, or do you go to follow the camber of the tray? I am worried that if I go straight across the tray, it may take out the pre formed slope and the water may not drain away profiiciently!

Any help, thoughts, inspiration would be appreciated!

Your 2" mosaics should follow the contours of the pre-formed tray alright, personally I would go for a bigger tile and "envelope" cut the tiles to provide falls, like this

Definite yes to tommyzooms advice for envelope cuts. It looks far better on larger floors where first choice of tilesize should be proportional to the room dimension Yours may be small enough to suit say 6" tiles in a 2Msq wetroom I have replaced a travertine 1" tile used to hug the contour, which is vital for fast drainage and to catch water if blocked by hairs etc. for 450mmSq tile. From tacky to grande
