I have a gold supervisors CSCS , but I have heard some horror stories. eg labourers with experienced workers cards, and time served tilers given site operative cards.:yikes: I don't want to change the subject, but I would love to see the kind of regulation in our industry that is in place for example in Australia. License's for every trade, If you step out of line your license can be revoked. Just my little quirk perhaps?

I too have a gold card

First time we got our CSR (in NI) cards, the older boys in our squad got gold cards due to their age/time. Think the criteria was NVQL3 or x years in the trade.

Has anything changes in the recent years to make things a bit tighter on site? Can you still get on without the NVQ?

Worked on a site recently ( large builder ) and they don't use the CSCS system , instead opting for their own 'passport' . Which of course you have to sit through ANOTHER obligatory dvd on H&S to obtain.

Yes.

Of the 3 big name builders ( ones most people would know ) I've worked for recently and regularly ( within the last 12 mth period ) , only 1 has asked for my card.

Well I don't think CSCS is compulsory , YET.

There is no legal requirement to have a card before you carry out construction work. However, all the major contractors who are members of UKCG, the UK Contractors Group, have agreed that workers on their site must have a CSCS card. The law allows principal contractors to set site rules all workers are expected to follow. Many other contractors have now followed this practice.
