I got a call a couple of weeks ago it went like this after I answered my phone
"hello this is merseyside police, nothing to worry about sir, is this plastering and tiling solutions" I answered "yes, how can I help you" he replied "we are putting adverts in the police magazine you would be the only one of your business and it will be distributed in a 30 mile radius to all serving officers" I asked him for the details (homer moment..duh).
He then said after waffling about the rates, "that will be £320+vat" I said "no,no I'm not purchasing anything over the phone, send me the details through the post and I'll read it all over and then decide " He said "ok will do sir"
and that was the last I heard of them, no details nothing...and I was going to purchase an ad....not..

i've had loads of these calls before, from the police to have the 'only' painters advert in there yearly diary for all there officers etc.... bla bla.

from being the 'only' painter in a builders merchant which 'would pay for my advert in one job' you know the speel.

there just plucking names out of yell, thomson local etc.... the reason i knew he got my number from there is because there was a spelling mistake on my advert and thats what he was calling me by. It was only a one letter missing but i knew where he got it from.

i tend not to answer witheld numbers now, and if it's important they'll leave a message.
