I've not had it happen too much to be honest.

Last one I had was a job in a bistro where they wanted 1 wall papered, I quoted £165 and the owner asked if i'd do it cheaper, I told her unfortunately not. So she turned round and offered me £150 and the best English breakfast I ever had. I accepted it just because it made me laugh

As everyone else, if you're busy then don't let it bother you.
I had some bloke that I had to do a quote for this evening. I could tell he was going to be looking for a cheap quote so I made a point of telling him that I might be able to do it towards the backend of Dec but more likely in Jan. I then lamped him with a price that was loaded with an extra days money . "I'll let you know", well at least I didn't have the hassle of having to advise that I don't discount (whether friend, cash or taxman).

I then get a call from a bloke who starts waffling on about getting a few quotes and working to a budget, so I says "I bet I'll be the most expensive, do you still want me to bother quoting?", "I'll let you know" he says. Saves me wasting time with hagglers and tyre kickers .

I have dropped the ' you will find cheaper' line when a customer is whincing, along the same vein as 'i'll be the most expensive'. I had a guy come back to me to say I was the most expensive quote he'd had, then he said 'but I want it doing properly'?!! Asked me If I'd drop to the price of the next price to mine, which was a paltry £100. Met him half way, and made it back o the job anyway

Sounds like you guys need to go to the middle east/Asia to get some lessons in haggling - we Brits just don't know how to deal with it because generally, it's not in our culture to haggle - there's nothing wrong in haggling and some cultures find it insulting if people don't..I'm finding I quite enjoy it, particularly if I win the job at my price :20:
