cutting a circle in marble

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Mark your tile with the circle then plunge cut on your wet cutter, moving tile up and down plunge cutting it in different areas but not going past the marked area. Then when large chunks of tile have fallen out nibble at the remaining bits with either parrott nips or larger nips up to the marked circled line.

Mark the circle to be cut onto the tile, be it marble or porcelain, Now get the angle grinder out and put a continuous rim diamond wheel on it. Once you've done that fire it up and your first cut will be to have the grinder laying with the wheel facindg down paralell with the tile surface the gently start to scribe the circle using the flat part of the wheel doing this will reduce chipping then once you've scored all the way around the circle plunge cut the bulk of the center out of the hole to be cut it should form an octogon or there abouts then instead of using the nips position the grinder under the tile and start removing the small sections that are left gradually till you meet the scoring you've done previously.Keep your strokes gentle and smooth a steady hand will help alot.

Hope this makes some sense. Good luck:thumbsup:

thanks for all the suggestions guys.

just one last point. on the pic that shows the hole that the 365 drills cut, what is the largest grout line you can have around the waste pipe. it seems quite large on the pic. i was told that wall grout lines should be around 2mm on large formats.

That sara was for just illustration purposes...you can buy the hole cutters in a size to fit your pipe size...or if you are using one of the other methods then leave a couple of mm all the way around then just Silicon this joint so it doesn't crack....

now i know why you are a super moderator, thank you once again dave your advice is appreciated
