Hi All

I need to cut a curve in some floor tiles to match a curved shower tray that is already fitted.

I have made template out or cardboard but i am unsure of the best way to cut the tiles, what is the best method 41/2" angle grinder or a tile saw.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum.

Cutting curves in tiles is relatively straight forward if you have a wet saw, use your template to transfer your line onto the tile, cut small slithers into the waste and just up to the line, these can then be snapped off with tile nippers and then use the nips to get the curve smooth, you can also use a tile file to get a smooth finish. Run the tile into the wetsaw blade at each end to make sure you dont snap off too much.

Hi diamondcuting

Thank you for your quick reply, I have another question.

Do I need to score the curved line onto the tile.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve, you don't have to score the line on the tile, just take your time and you will become more confident with each cut.
What tiles are you using, porcelain, ceramic or stone?

As above, on flatbed as Diamond says cut slithers it will give you the look of a combe. good luck:thumbsup:

Like Dom says cut the slithers down to your curved mark, normally about 10-15mm wide till it looks like a comb, like Phil says, then just snap with your pincers. Then I run my hand grinder or wet saw around the raggy curved edge to back edge the tile and tidy it up:thumbsup:

just to add on the above points, use a good chinagraph pencil that won't wash off(most diy sheds and tile stores stock them) and cut it slowly to avoid the tile jamming and snapping or parts breaking off:thumbsup:

Just a few methods that could be used

if its ceramic tiles then i use the method thats sir ramic has posted on the rubi, if its a really sharp bending curve, i would do as above and then run the middle of the tile/curve into the wetsaw to reduce the curvature angle or it might shear at the end..twin rail rubi cutters are great for this..

if its stone tiles, then its dom's method for me or angle grinder.

have fun
