Had a swop around of jobs today (s'posed to be in a conservatory!) and went to a couple who, to be honest were what I would call 'undecided' when booking..what I mean is the husband has 'always done the tiling' and was unconvinced about getting a professional tiler in. The kitchen floor was..to put it bluntly..bendier than a fiddlers elbow!:yikes:..and I got the impression when I priced it that they were a bit on the short side for money..anyhoo..cheap tiles picked and a begrudging husband to please is a recipe for a bad day..I am pleased to say they were over the moon with the finish and I was really satisfied with the floor..now flat as a pancake and durable...there's not too much in the way of job satisfaction as we all know in tiling..but I really had the feel good factor today when the old man shook my hand and said 'I'm so pleased my wife got you in to do this..thanks' lovely every now and then!
(shoulda taken pics of the before:mad2:..but trust me..it stank!)

Recently I've been having the other sort of days but today was a really good and positive day so hopefully more to come, glad you had a good day, nice when they come along

thanks guys..like I said..not the most impressive or technical piece of work , but lovely to get some appreciation every now and then from people who were 'in the the balance' as it were..anyway..happy friday all:thumbsup:

I actually got a "thank you, my bathroom looks lovely" off the mother-in-law today, this is after a full week of stunted conversation and very tightly pursed lips from her:mad2:. :mad2:

Job looks fine and I'am pleased you had a good day today.
Its an interesting statement you've included in your thread and I was wondering how many tilers feel like you do.
I hope it doesn't make it seem as though I've taken it out of context but it alarmed me to think you'd be doing a job without satisfaction.
When work is scarce and money tight its surely the satisfaction obtained in doing a job you love that keeps you going - or am I an old romantic!

..and yes, sorry Jamie (me, me, me, I'm turning into my mother-in-law) the floor looks great:thumbsup:

I totally agree with you TJ, job satisfaction plays a major part for me:thumbsup:

Don't get me wrong John, I love my job or else I wouldn't have been doing it for the past 18 years.. i just personally find what with the current climate being so tough there's so little room for the glory! (and as I said that floor is nothing special or particulary exciting) cos we're all up against it, it made a nice change to realise that people are happy/affected by then results rather than just 'ticking' that one off and on to the next one..prehaps I was a bit unclear in my post, but really I meant it was a shot in the arm for me personally after quite a gruelling month of work that has little in the way of appreciation. I find personally that the technical aspects of tiling nowadays can give me such a headache that it sometimes clouds the 'artistic' satisfaction I've always got out of it..it was just a great back to basics day today..job required..job done..evryone happy..lovely!

Agree 100%.. if no job satisfaction was there, i would go stack shelves or summit..:earmuffs:.. that leads me to a new thread.

I thought that a bit odd too. Completed two jobs this week I'm chuffed to bits with. Couldn't do it without job satisfaction

I also agree 100%..but it has been one of those months where I've needed a job like that today to restore my faith as it were..taken on more site work the last few weeks and it's been a logistic nightmare..the side of tiling I don't enjoy..mission statements and health & safety overviews etc..my point was just lovely to do a 'bread & butter' basics job..life is so uncomplicated with those..good for the tiling soul!..

I think I may win the award for 'worlds worst at explaining oneself' what I really meant is 'lovely day..satisfying' and no buerocratic BS!!.
Can we all have a big group hug now?.with our horrible calloused tiling hands?
..come here you soppy lot..:001_icon16:

But if you explain yourself properly at the start then Old g*ts like me will have nothing to pontificate about!
I'am not into this hugging thing (tough building worker and all that).

Now site work has ZERO satisfaction.. so i agree why you were down a bit..
but that all depends on the site Dave, if it's just house bashing I agree, but some sites that I've worked on have been really top drawer and very rewarding:thumbsup:

:thumbsup:That's what makes this job so rewarding!
Never in the same place for more than a couple of days/week.
Lovely scenery in the Lakes or Hadrians Wall - its like being on holiday every day. And sometimes we get paid!

job satisfaction for me is being able to stand back and be chuffed with my work/also when the customer expresses there delight in my work.

the main thing hear jamie is that you made an old couple very happy/proud of there home!

it looks smart by the way:thumbsup:
