Dewalt or Makita?

Hey folks. Looking @ a couple of combri drills and wondered which your choice of these would be?

Also could someone explain difference between Nicad & Lithium Ion?

Makita

With budget in mind any other recommendations greatfully received.

Hi kps, I personally stick to hilti for all my gear, they now have a 22 volt range which is superior to anything out there. Lithium batteries have no memory so can be charged from any state of charge, for example if you need to whack in a few screws and its flat you can stick it on for five mins just to get enough. Good thing about hilti is the back up and service side.

They are all over-rated in my opinion. I have had and broken two Makita combi drills, now have a DeWalt only as it was on sale. Quality is nothing special and it feels flimsy.

Never heard of Hilto until Trevortine mentioned them. Did a search. £350 on eBay for an SFC-14A in the U.K. Nope, won't be getting one of those then...

Theoretically Trevor. I did also see an SFC 18A on eBay, presumably that's a higher spec model than the 14A, for £51.98 direct from China. Admittedly it was used and not new, but it says to me that Hilto are made in China like all the rest of them...

I think hilti is a German company, not sure mike but the quality of their products is outstanding. The new 22 volt range is amazing. Look at any big building site anywhere in the world from housing to stadiums and you will see hilti products being used,

Had a Mikita and the chuck broke. It was swapped for an erauber which has been fine but is a bit limp when the charge is getting lower.

I like Makita. Never had a problem tbh and if it does go I don't mind paying for another as the price is "normal" lol.

My shopfitter friends have Hilti, Makita and Dewalt tools, when I asked as to which was the best they said something like this....The Hilti is great and can be repaired easily. The Makita is better all round than the DeWalt and they say batteries are better too but they have known a few duff batteries.
When asked which I should go for they both said the Makita 18v LXT. This was due to the price of the Hilti and the fact that they get a good 2 years out of their Makita drills and by that time they want the latest newer versions.

Always had Makita since starting out but this new LXT lithium ion set i have at the moment is utter rubbish, they have a well reported fault in the design of the battery (have lost 4 in under 2 yrs) will be trying milwaukee next as i have heard good feedback.

Blimey Bri, you wouldn't lose that in a car park. My parents had an old Citreon GSA that colour when I was a lad. I have a de walt battery drill, only got one to justify carrying my de walt radio about, otherwise I'd take any de walt, bosch, makita etc on offer when I needed it, but if money was no object then I'd have festool all the way, got their big jigsaw from when I did wood floors here for a while, love it

When I first started out I had a Bosch green cordless drill and thought it was ace! The Dewalt I have now is only an 18v 1.3 but is about 100 times better, got it when they were half price in B&Q.

Best advert I've ever had John, had a yellow Astra before this, good at getting people's attention! It's had a little makeover recently, I'll get a couple of pics the next time I wash it.

A bit more chrome and shiny stuff added! Wheels have been refurbed in silver, looks better I think.
