Discoloured Porcelain Tiles - Any Suggestions? (UK)

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

I have white porcelain tiles installed in my bathroom. They appear to have significantly discoloured over time (first noticed a within a couple of weeks), and now appear in an off white / grey colour in sections. The tiles shown in the attached photos.

The tiles are in square sheets and the discolouring is aligned with each square tile sheet shape. I have tried intensive tile cleaner, with limited success, it may improve the discoloured tiles briefly, but within a week they are back to being quite visibly different.

Any advice / suggestions to fix, or similar issues experienced and how you resolved, short of ripping out and reinstalling, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

It looks like a batch colouring issue to me. Don't suppose you have any of the boxes or can trace them back via the supplier?

Seem to be quite square and even, and I would guess match the sheets of mosaic perfectly too. 5 × 5 octagon mosaics with grey inserts?

If it was moisture they'd also go darker perhaps but the patches would be sporadic and match where the 'leak' ends up being in the end.

Have you spoken to the installer? First port of call is them and the supplier to see if it was a batch issue. Which is always down to the installer to ensure they're matching before even starting to mix adhesive.

Happens all the time and delays the job sometimes but you wouldn't want to install two shades and batch numbers even if they seem exact. Can sometimes be sizing not colouring too so tilers just get used to checking.
