i have the chance to tile a floor and i can use what i like as a backer board etc
The floor is T&G floorboards in good condition. No bounce at all.
I would normally use No More Ply but fancy a change. So is Ditra suitable?
The tiles are 150mm ruabon red.
I was thinking the Ditra because it has to meet an existing floor and backer board is at least 6mm, Ditra 3mm.

Neale schluter do also say that it needs to be load bearing etc.....but they also say they recommend plywood overlay.......how thick..they don't say....
I would say if you use fastflex to put the ditra down then it will be fine but if not then use a ply base...

I have used a 9mm ply and ditra just be on the safe side.......

this is from schluter............

Structural plank flooring
Sufficiently load bearing structural plank subflooring in tongue and groove construction, with the appropriate screws in place, in principle is suited as a substrate for ceramic tiles. The timber substrate should have reached the equilibrium moisture content prior to installing Schlüter-DITRA. However, an additional layer of plywood or OSB panels is recommended. Uneven floors must be levelled using an appropriate levelling compound.

Well guys Ditra can be used to fix to floorboards, The same rules apply and the floor must be sound and level but this applies to all overlaying substrates. Don't forget the boards need to be screwed at a minimum of 300mm centres first regardless of what you use to overlay with:thumbsup:

Ditra I love the stuff and its best fixed to woods with a contact adhesive Ardex 200 or evostik anything like that dont forget you are gluing material to wood:hurray:

Quoting the main man "HOH" shouldnt you always use ditra ? (sky tv watchers know who im on about.)

Also, when putting a 9mm board down ditra plus sticky plus addy and tiles, how the hell does the door open without catching the floor (yes, im very new and haven't done my course yet nor started trading on my own)
If this is the case, what is the solution ?

i take the door off and trim to fit after tiles are fixed........as for height difference then that is a down side of tiling timber floors unless you use a 2 part adhesive and prep the floor correctly first.......i personally still don't trust tiling straight onto floor boards etc...........has to be some sort of sub-floor for me.........
