I am a Handyman working in Carmarthenshire doing all those small jobs that the builders can't be bothered with e.g. putting up shelves, cupboards, adjusting sticking doors etc. I also do decorating.
I have always done the odd tiling job but over the last 18 months or so that and laminate flooring seems to have taken over as the majority of my work.
I am a registered trader with the local Trading Standards Department. This is good scheme started to stop particularly the local elderly being ripped off. It ensures that you have things like proper business paperwork, public liability insurance etc and that you comply to a code of good practice e.g. prices up front.
Before you can register they do a Crimianal Records check on you, check that you are operating legally and give you an ID card. You also get freepost feedback forms to give to customers that go back to Trading Standards and a listing on their web site. They also offer a free arbitration service if the customer is ever in dispute with you and they willl also take up the traders case if for example the customers doesn't come up with the money
