Do you need to use spacers?

Hi Guys

I purchased some tiles from Topps, Celia Blanco-M however, when laying them out on the floor to see how I wanted to arrnage them, I notice that if I add spacers between the tiles the pattern then does't match up? As you can see without spaces it matchs! The only other option is to use spaces and tile one on top of the other... Any thoughts?

I have used these before and if you space they are fine.. as each row is moved up to match.. if you get my drift

I take it these are going on the walls? You will want to use spacers to stop the tiles from sliding down the wall and to keep the joints even.

Perhaps they are not designed for brick-bond?

I assume you're putting these tiles on the wall...? These tiles are designed to be installed in rows and not as you have them, that's why the pattern doesn't work with spacers....

surely they would still match up,if you use 2.5mm spaces each tile would move up the same,2.5mm,so shouldent be no problem

That's not actually brick-bond either by the looks of it. The lines are not in the centre of the tiles, they're sort of 1 third and 2 thirds and not half and half by the looks of it from the picture?

It works if you set out the first rows ok.. i have done them brick bond... shame i have no pics.

Hi Dan if I put the tiles in the middle brick style the lines between the two tiles won't match up as you can see you get half dark strip and half light (compared to the other strips on the tile) you need to put them 3/4 to match up, even tried around the other way!

The next picture shows with spaces you see some match up but not all!!!

mmmm not good... the ones i used were from CTD and the cross bands were narrower now you post closer pics..

I think you will have to straight set these tiles..

As I said earlier IMO this tile isn't designed to be installed this way and that's why the vertical off-set bond (just made that up) doesn't work....

I fitted these a couple of months ago and I'm pretty sure there is a right and a wrong way up, so what I'm basically saying is that the pattern on the tile is not symmetrical, make sure all the tiles are the same way up and the pattern should match, which ever way you choose to lay them.

Might be some kind of indication on the back of the tile..

I'm pretty sure there was a direction arrow on the back, not 100% sure though.

laid some Blanco and looks nice but not quite sure of the vertical brick, looks strange.

After checking to see if the pattern is the same either way up, it was? Also there is no indication on the back to indicate the correct way up..

Rich: After the hell I've put myself through over the last few months I'll be pleased as punch to put some pictures up of the finished cloakroom. More then that my partner will be even more pleased. Respect to you guys - never again!!

:lol: Well you are doing the right thing by coming on here and asking questions at this stage, it is heart breaking when people come on here after making a mistake and we have to say "rip it down,start again". It would be a good idea to ask the guys on here their thoughts each stage of the project, cant help to get an experts opinion

if you have no arrow or directional mark on the back look at the edges of the tile normally there is glaze and color on one edge use this as a guide and try to lay all the same (hope this makes sense)
