Does a plasterer get your walls flat or do you do it yourself?

Was wondering how many tilers prep their own walls or do they use a plasterer?

Both mate. I'll do patch & repairs & all drylining etc or skimming fresh plasterboard but if I'm on a timescale or I want to turn a heavy bellied wall or artexed wall into a sheet of glass, I've got just the man to do it.

I prefer to do it myself, that way I dont have no one to blame if its not right ....I do the same for most of my work!....although i dont do any electric's or major plumbing myself i get my old man to do it

As a time served plasterer that's quite pedantic about walls being flat and straight, I do them myself

most new plaster ive seen latley seems to have been thrown on with a shovel ...

if you cant do it yourself, find a decent plasterer and hang on to him, thats what i do..

I've seen many bad plastering work over the years. My plasterer is a really good friend of mine. I've never seen plastering as good as his.

I meant to take my camera to work today to post pics of what we've been dry-lining and skimming, back on thursday so will get some pics then, with straight edge at every tangent to show how I think it should be done , although some of the walls are 30' high so might need a plumb bob :8:

well i always render my own wall's if i can, but sometimes i do have to work on other plasterers wall's, which can be interesting ! some are great and some are atrocious but yes i prefer to do my own !!...

My plasterer is working on a house doing sound insulation. Sticky membrane background & heavy insulation boards. Don't know much about the stuff but I know the customer paid about £1500 to do 4 walls upstairs & downstairs against the neighbours wall. Was hoping to jump along & see it today but never got a chance. He sent me some pics though (not the best)

I prefare to do my own prep work, be it plaster, render, S/L compound, or my favorite sand and cement screed. Can't moan about anyone doing a bad job then.

I do all my own prep skimming render floor screed render OCR board work wood/metal stud work sound proofing water proofing ect I can go on lol

Seems like most do it themselves which is what I thought, my boss doesn't do any of it. Even small little patch repairs which I think is not only time consuming but costing him a nice few pennies.

Have yet to find a plasterer who knows what flat and plumb mean, the current bathroom im tiling was preped by a 'plasterer' after short inspection with my 1.8 level i noticed 1 wall had belly of over an inch and another wall wass kicking out at top and sides by 1 cm... unacceptable!! I removed plaster and fixed! Most plasterers i have found up my way think because they can skim then they are plasterers so i try to do all my own prep using either plasterboard or cement. You get all the prep work right then the actuat tiling is a dodle, i cant emphisise this enough! ;-)
