It's in Australia, my son who lives there is thinking of buying it, he's doing an apprenticeship as a carpenter and is poor as a church mouse, taking a loan out.... looks like a serious petrol guzzler to me, but any knowledgeable opinion from you guys? I suppose he wants a workhorse for tools etc?...

looks clean and tidy but at over £3,000 for a 17 year old motor (not many miles for the age though (100k miles) it seems expensive to me

A tiling buddy of mine sold his 3 year old trafic and bought a ford ranger(yute) lately,he loves it but his tools a packed tight in the back,lol.
A pig on fuel for sure but that's all they love out there i think,lol.

pretty thirsty but not as bad as the older ones, easy to maintain and no hidden nasties, a strong vehicle with good carrying capacity

one of my mates is always buying and selling us and aus motors, he has the occasional ford falcon , they are good motors, nothing exciting , just reliable and easy to maintain

It's interesting to see the Ford Falcon name used for a vehicle like that. The model "Falcon" disappeared here long ago, and it was always used for cars. The model that Ford sold here for many years that was a car front/pick up rear was called the "Ranchero".

Gisela, the 4.0 L displacement is smaller than Ford's famous 4.9 L straight six (300 cubic inches), which they made for decades and was a wonderful motor. I had one in an F150, and it was one of the best trucks I've ever had.

If that 4.0L six that your son is looking at is the overseas version of the 4.9 L straight six, then I wouldn't be concerned about the age, especially given the low mileage.

I don't always trust what Wikipedia has, so take this with a grain of salt.

One of the lads on site while i was working in OZ had a similar car, great big thing it was and you could hear it coming a a mile away. With the fuel being so cheap out there it was no issue. The big engine made for a relaxing drive too, very unstressed .
Vehicle prices though are quite high in Oz.
