when you spot another tilers van just around the corner from where you live. Then find out that he has come from the other side of London (or wherever). Then again, I guess it works both ways!

I did one a while back.( kitchen) and their next door neigbour was a tiler......really went down well..:lol: and i knew him....I said why didn't you use ( won't mention names) **** and they said errrr pass......i know the reason but didn't tell him...:smilewinkgrin:

ive got a utility room to do in leicester..........about an hour and halfs drive each way

i bumped into a tiler outside my nearest tile merchants with a leicester phone code, asked if he was working local to me and he was

i said thats ok as ive got a job coming up in leicester.........told him where

thats round the corner from our office he said

I've had this and done the same to other people.

I worked at a clients next door to a builder, and another worked for my next door neigbour.

I've also been in the position where I got my next door neigbour to quote me to fit a bathroom (long before I was in the business myself). He was very expensive and I found a chap a few miles away who was very competitive. He did a good job as well.

He was still a good neigbour, so when this happened to me I tried to see it from the customer's point of view.

My next door neighbors on both sides know that I am a contractor, but they have never asked me to do any work. I have seen some of the mutts coming and going from their houses over the past few years, and now I think I am glad that they didn't ask me. I think I can guess what kind of work they are paying for.

One time, I was out loading my truck and I saw the "carpenters" next door cutting crown molding. They were using a circular saw and were cutting the molding while it was supported on drywall buckets. :yikes: I haven't been in the house to see the work but I'm sure it's...................:mad2:
