Dot and Dab Plasterboard onto painted walls

Is this something that you ever do? Or is that only if the plaster is in a bad way

Do it all the time. Usually hack off the old plaster though.

Sorry, was first thing in morning, and my grasp on the queens english is bad enough
No need to thisle bond it , either screw battens if you have the space or dot and dab boards and screw through dabs, the bond it will be doing nothing imo
