Dot and Dab, Skim or Baton

Curious on what everyone thinks is the best way to make a wall good for tiling either dot and dab, get a plasterer to skim the wall or to put up battons and board out wall?

Never dot and dabbed but i know alot of joiners I work with doint like the baton method due to amount lost of the room size and get that wall skimmed but then it required priming and as good as the plaster is the walls never bump free:lol:

DavieA give the dot and dab a go its actually quite easy.

I was really cautious about it the first time i tried it as i had 3 full boards to do and round a set of patio doors.

If you want tips on how to get it spot on this is the place to find them 🙂

get all the plaster off the wall or make sure it's sound then D&D the new plasterboard.

Good advice and was hoping you boys would say that:thumbsup:. Take it you only lose the thickness of the board and a few mm for adhesive rather the an inch and a half per wall as when baton method is used?

Any advice on how to D&D well and whats a good product to use as adhesive?

Thanks

there is a foam you can use but i tend not to use it for D&D when using tiles as i dont trust it. You need to allow 25mm for D&D

Dot and dab if you have a large area I tend to cut boards in half it makes them more managable, put the dabs on the wall make sure there is plenty round edges not too thick not too wet you will get the feel use a level and a straight edge try to complete a wall at a time when you have a window put sides in to top of window then top peice will fit across and sit on them use straight edge diagonaly across to check you are flat and square good luck:thumbsup:

Dry-line adhesive all the way around perimeter of the board as well dot an dab in the middle is good

Thanks for all the tips, what If a walls been tiled previously would you just remove tiles where the dabs of adhesive will go or is it best to strip whole wall back? Is there a primer required for the board adhesive for subs like brick, plaster/render?

Remove everything back to the brickwork and damp the areas your fixing with adhesive.
