Gents,
Following on from my nightmare tiling job http://www.tilersforums.com/tiling-forum/51902-dot-dabbed-porcelein-tiles-job-progress.html its about time I looked at the fix.
I'm not finished yet but it is coming up. What I'll be left with is a floor which is in three parts.
One end is a concrete extension. This now has Wickes SLC on it to about 3mm.
The main body is timber floorboards. This now has the hardenen remnants of a tile adhesive on it. It has been scraped as best as possible over a very dull period of my life.
The last area is the porch area which is also concrete with a thin skim of wickes SLC.
What I'm proposing is this:
On timber area:
>Prime with Acrylic primer.
>Using the left over Wickes flexi rapid adhesive & screws I'll put down 6mm hardiboards. this should solve any problems with adhesion to previous mixes.
On concrete (&SLC'd areas):
>Prime using Acrylic primer.
>Recitfy any levelling issues with Wickes SLC covering all areas.
>Stick down tiles with Mapei from B&Q. (Super flex adhesive for porcelain)
> Grout with Mapei flexible from B&Q.
Sound good? I think I've got quite a few tools to buy - but so be it.
Reason for using B&Q / Wickes is for ease of returns more than anything else. I would use BAL but their only flex adhesive for porcelain is £50 a bag!
