I've noticed it here in Surrey. 6 months ago, I was earning £170 a day, now to get the work I'm going in at £120. I think there are several reasons for this. Firstly clients are not earning a good rate any more in the bank, so what little money they do have, they want to go a long long way, as prefered to a year ago.

Secondly, and I know it sounds stupid, but clients know that the building trade is suffering, so they will look around for the knocked down price, whether they initinate it or the tiler does( because he hasn't worked and needs to feed the family etc)

Its a bit of a anxiety circle at the moment IMO. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Yes, there are still clients out there who will pay the odds on reprutation, their happy what they have been told, but I think the tide is turning.

At my local tile shop yesterday, the 'man of tilers' was in their belly aching he wasn't getting the work on the back of no advertising, not the usual fat pay, etc...........join the real World mate.

Just my thoughts.
