I had the shock of my life today, I had been quoted a price for some limestone by a well known specified stone company, and found out they had also quoted in for the same contract to supply and fix. Their price to supply and fix was below what they had quoted me for the supply only!

Dual pricing stinks, and its on the increase, so much so in fact that if I see certain suppliers names on the M40, I return a no quote or propose an alternative source for the material. You have to fight them at their own game sometimes, which is what I did today. I cant wait to see their faces when company xxxxxxx ltd find out they wont be doing this contract.

They must have twigged by your request that it was the same job so deliberately tried to make you uncompetitive:thumbsdown:

that is actually illegal I beleive. In contravention of the restrictive trade practices regulations. Not sure if it applies to small businesses the same as it does big business but If I was caught doing it myself I could go to prison.......:yikes:

on original subject, had the exact same thing happen to me a few years back, wondered how on earth the builder went with a quote 30bags under mine, I reckon I had been quoted stone prices at approx twice the price. I should have gone back to the builder with the prices and checked that was what was agreed between builder and showroom, Live and learn....!
theres plenty of loose lips about, some showrooms dont seem to mind telling all and sundry who is returning quotes, even a postcode mentioned for delivery costs can be a clue too far.....unbelieveable.
